The Incredible Story of Goose Foie Gras

To mark European Heritage Days, the association Les Mémoires du Kuckuckstei, in partnership with Marcel Metzler, will present a unique event dedicated to “The Incredible History of Goose Foie Gras—From Tradition to Alsatian Heritage.”

Through exhibits, films, demonstrations, and various activities, visitors will be able to discover the full richness of this Alsatian heritage: the history of goose foie gras, traditional production methods, the producers’ expertise, as well as current issues related to its evolution.

The program will include, in particular:
• An exploration of the world of geese;
• A tour of the goose’s journey, featuring the Gaensbrunnen, the fountain, and the old goose pen;
• A historical exhibition on goose foie gras and its traditions in Alsace;
• Film screenings;
• Demonstrations of goose foie gras production by Marcel Metzler;
• Tastings paired with wines from our local winemakers;
• A giant game of the goose titled “The Secrets of Gueberschwihr,” for young and old alike, with prizes to be won;
• Calligraphy workshops using goose quills;
• As well as entertainment on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. featuring Les Médiévales, the Sainte-Cécile choir, and Pauline Haas.

Beyond gastronomy, our goal is to highlight Alsace’s rich historical, rural, and cultural heritage, as well as the customs, traditions, and skills associated with it.
